Two-time Paralympic medallist Rosa Guerrero made good use of home advantage to set a new personal best en route to gold at the four-day Jalisco 2025 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Mexico.

Bronze medallist in the women’s discus F55 at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, Guerrero threw 27.61m in her sixth and last attempt to top the podium at the Polideportivo CODE Revolucion on Sunday (11 May). Her throw would have been enough to win gold at last year’s Paralympic Games.

A world champion from Paris 2023, Guerrero could not hold back her tears of joy to celebrate a fourth consecutive triumph in four Grand Prix hosted in Mexico since 2022.

Mexican fans had even more reasons to celebrate at the Jalisco GP, as other Paris medallists shone in field events. Gilda Cota – also the Kobe 2024 world champion – threw 7.45m to win the women’s shot put F33, while Osiris Machado was another athlete to claim a fourth gold in as many home GPs in the women's shot put F44.

USA thrower and world record holder in the men’s javelin F54, Justin Phongsavanh beat reigning world champion and Paris silver medallist Edgar Ulises Fuentes to take gold in the event. Bronze at Tokyo 2020 and fourth place in Paris, Phongsavanh threw 30.30m to victory at Jalisco 2025.

“Glad to compete alongside great athletes in a great venue. Glad to keep the win streak alive and another meet over 30m,” Phongsavanh posted on social media following his victory in Mexico.

In track events, men’s 100m T54 Paralympic champion Juan Pablo Cervantes entertained the crowd with a hat-trick of golds in the men’s 100m T54, 400m T54 and 800m T54.

Argentina’s Lucia Montenegro dominated the track in the women's T54 events also picking three victories (100m, 400m and 1500m).

USA Chelsea Stein was another wheelchair racer to travel home with triple gold after her wins in the women’s 100m T53, 400m T53 and 800m T53. Paris silver medallist Korban Best added more gold to the U.S. medal tally in Mexico finishing first in the men's 100m T47, clocking 10.92.

Two-time Paralympian and three-time Parapan American medallist Rosbil Guillen put Peru on the top of the podium in the men’s 5000m T11.
