Argentina Defeats Spain for 5-a-Side Title

Argentina beat host nation Spain, 3-2, to claim the title at the FEDC International Blind Futsal Tournament, on Sunday (28 August).

The five-day, Football 5-a-side tournament was held in Madrid, Spain, and drew teams from Argentina, England, Italy, Turkey and Spain.

During the group stage Spain was undefeated meaning that the final loss to Argentina was its first defeat of the tournament. Argentina actually defeated Spain in the bronze-medal match at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, and both are expected to field strong squads for the London 2012 Games next summer.

Argentina’s Luis Sacayan was the tournament’s top scorer bagging nine goals. Spain’s Antonio Martin also faired well racking up five goals.

England, which was led by David Clarke, defeated Italy in the third-place game in a penalty shootout. Turkey finished in fifth place, not winning a single game in the tournament.
