Brazilian men’s and women’s qualify for World Group

The Brazilian men's and women's wheelchair tennis teams both qualified for the 2017 World Group in Sardinia, Italy.

The Brazilian men’s and women’s teams won the BNP Paribas World Team Cup Americas Qualification in Quito, Ecuador, and qualified for the 2017 World Group in Sardinia, Italy, from 1-7 May.

In the men’s event, Brazil’s Rafael Medeiros and Daniel Rodriguez completed a 2-0 victory over USA’s Chris Herman and Casey Ratzlaff in the final.

Medeiros gave his country the best of starts by defeating Herman 6-0, 6-1, before Rodrigues sealed the victory following his 6-2, 6-2 win over Ratzlaff.

This will be the 22nd time the Brazil men’s team will play the World Group. Chile finished third after defeating Colombia 2-0, whilst Ecuador ended fifth after beating Cuba 2-0.

The Brazilian women’s team emerged victorious at the Americas Qualification for the second successive year after a 2-0 win over Argentina. Brazil’s Meirycoll Duval and Natalia Mayara defeated Florencia Moreno and Antonella Pralong in both singles to claim the win.

Duval first beat Moreno 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to give Brazil the lead. World No.21 and Parapan American champion Mayara later defeated Pralong 6-0, 6-2 to seal the victory over Argentina.
