Vejle, Denmark, continues to make itself known as a Para sports hub as it welcomes the 2022 Wheelchair Rugby World Championships from 8-17 October.

The International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) made the announcement on 7 May, as the world's top 12 teams will vie for the coveted title.

Vejle previously staged the 2019 European Championships, and also the 2015 Para Table Tennis World Championships, so the the Local Organising Committee - consisting of Parasport Denmark, Wheelchair Rugby Committee Denmark, Sport Event Denmark and the Municipality of Vejle - are no strangers to hosting major Para sport competitions.

Head of IWRF Competitions Kathy Newman welcomed Parasport Denmark’s efforts to step up to host:

“Parasport Denmark has a rich history in hosting Para sport and we thank them for their continued commitment.  Their vision is to grow the sport globally, build strong partnerships and present the best world championship ever.

“The IWRF Competitions Committee was really impressed with the quality of the bid and the commitment from the Municipality of Vejle and Sport Event Denmark to support the delivery of the championship.  We look forward to working with the Local Organising Committee to help Parasport Denmark and the IWRF realise their shared vision.”

Dan Arnløv Jørgensen, Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Committee of Culture and Sports in the Municipality of Vejle said: “We are very proud to have been chosen to host the 2022 IWRF World Championship in Vejle. We want to build on the success of the European Championships in 2019, and once again emphasise that Vejle is the capital of Para sport."

The complete announcement can be found on the IWRF's website.
