“We are extremely grateful to be able to visit President Graça and the International Volleyball Federation to explore potential collaboration. In many ways it was a ground breaking meeting, having the opportunity to discuss the possibility of working together. It’s not just about sport, it’s about social change.”

The FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graca F° recently welcomed a delegation from World ParaVolley (formerly the World Organisation Volleyball for Disabled) to discuss the possibility of an increased collaboration between the two parties.

World ParaVolley is an independent International Federation (IF) and as a member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is responsible for the delivery of sitting volleyball at the Paralympic Games.

President Graca and FIVB Technical and Development Director Helgi Thorsteinsson held a positive meeting with World ParaVolley President Dr. Hossam Eldin Mostafa and Sport Director Denis Le Breuilly to explore the areas of common interest and possible co-operation.

“The FIVB’s objective is to facilitate the potential between the two parties for the benefit of volleyball and its participants around the world,” said President Graca. “One of the FIVB’s key objectives is to encourage the development and growth of the sport of volleyball in all of its forms worldwide and since the FIVB has the infrastructure, there are many ways we can help.”

World ParaVolley President Dr. Hossam Eldin Mostafa added: “We are extremely grateful to be able to visit President Graça and the International Volleyball Federation to explore potential collaboration. In many ways it was a ground breaking meeting, having the opportunity to discuss the possibility of working together. It’s not just about sport, it’s about social change.”

The meeting featured initial discussions. Any concrete proposals from further meetings will then have to be presented to the FIVB Board of Administration for approval in accordance with the FIVB Constitution.
