France on Top at Tango Cup in Argentina

Athletes from France brought home multiple medals from Buenos Aires, Argentina, as the 2009 Tango Cup VII finished this past weekend.

In the Men’s Single Table Tennis event (SM4), Maxime Thomas from France took first position, winning against compatriot Sebastien Pechard. In the Women’s Single event (SM1-3), Sweden’s Anna Carin Ahlquist took first place after beating Slovakia’s Alena Kanova. France’s Fanny Bertrand came in third position.

In the Men’s Single event (SM6), Thomas Fernandez from France took first after winning against compatriot Bastien Grundeler. Germany’s Thomas Rau came in third position. In the Women’s Single event (SM4-5), Hong Kong, China’s Pui Yi Wong took first place, beating Brazil’s Maria Luiza Passos. Host country’s Marta Makishi took third place.

The final tally of countries had France in first with seven gold medals, followed by Slovakia, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy respectively.

Taking place from 18-21 November, a total of 126 players from 29 different countries were on the South American continent to show their high powered skills in Table Tennis.
