Austria’s Markus Mendy Swoboda secured his fifth K1 (TA) 200m title in successive competitions, as the 2014 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships came to a close in Moscow, Russia.

The 24-year-old was impressive once more, as he produced an excellent performance to finish ahead of Brazil’s Fernando Rufino de Paulo and Russia’s Victor Potanin in 40.928.

And there was another dominant performance from Great Britain’s Jeannette Chippington, as she was crowned a seven-time para-canoe world champion with two more world titles.

Chippington, who took up the sport in 2012, kept up her good form on the water in the women’s K1 (A) 200m, beating Ukraine’s Svitlana Kupriianova and Russia’s Alexandra Dupik by over four seconds in 55.21.

And her second gold came in the women’s V1 (A) 200m with a huge six-second victory ahead of Australia’s Kara Kennedy and Ukraine’s Zoia Ovsii.

In the men’s V1 (LTA) 200m, Italy’s Pier Alberto Buccoliero tasted the first success of the day as he pushed past Great Britain’s Martin Tweedie with a time of 50.368 to take gold. Russia’s Aleksei Egorov claimed bronze.

Australia claimed their first success of the competition as Curtis McGrath emerged victorious in a close battle with Great Britain’s Jonathan Young in the men’s V1 (TA) 200m. There was another third place finish for Russia, as Potanin scooped his second medal

And Australia took their second gold in the men’s K1 (LTA) 200m, as Brock Ingram beat France’s Martin Farineaux and Iran’s Nader Eivazi Khiarak.

After an incredible performance at the 2014 ECA Canoe Sprint European Championships, Great Britain’s para-canoeists were in excellent form once more as Emma Wiggs claimed gold in the women’s K1 (TA) 200m. Canada’s Christine Gauthier took silver, Ukraine’s Nataliia Lagutenko in bronze.

And there was more success for Wiggs as she once again overcame Gauthier and Lagutenko in the women’s V1 (TA) 200m.

With para-canoe set to make its debut at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, there was some Brazilian success as Luis Carlos Cardoso da Silva dominated the men’s V1 (A) 200m.

After being narrowly beaten at the Europeans, Hungary’s Andras Rozbora found his revenge on Great Britain’s Ian Marsden in the men’s K1 (A) 200m.

But there was more British success as Andrea Green topped the podium ahead of Russia’s Larisa Volik and Canada’s Gauthier in the women’s V1 (LTA) 200m.

Ukraine’s Yuriy Kikhayev claimed the only gold for his country, as he won the men’s K1 (LTA) 200m ahead of Romania’s Iulian Serban and Russia’s Leonid Krylov.

And in the women’s race, Great Britain’s Anne Dickins continued her impressive start in the sport by claiming the world title ahead of France’s Cindy Moreau and Australia’s Amanda Reynolds.
