The 2023 World Para Ice Hockey Championships will take place from 28 May - June 4 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in Canada. The top eight teams from around the world will compete for the world title, with the top six finishers staying in the A-Pool for the next season. United States

Background:
The USA has not missed a World Championships podium in 23 years. The red, white and blue own a record five world titles and five Paralympic titles, and enter the tournament ranked No. 1 in the world. Eleven of the team’s 17 players return from the squad that won its last world title in 2021, and head coach David Hoff will return for his third World Championships. At the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics, the USA went a perfect 4-0, outscoring opponents 30-1. At the last World Championships, the USA went 4-1, outscoring opponents 27-2.

Athletes to Watch: 
The dynamic duo of Declan Farmer, 25, and Brody Roybal, 24, have been a key reason for the USA’s consistent hold on the world No. 1 ranking over the last half of a decade. At the Beijing 2022 Paralympics, the two combined for 30 points, with Farmer finishing the event with a tournament-leading 18 points and becoming the all-time US leader for Paralympic points and assists in the process. At the last World Championships, the pair combined for 10 goals and eight assists.

Matchup to Watch: United States vs. Canada on 31 May
The last day of preliminary play may be a preview of what fans can expect in the gold-medal game in Moose Jaw. While the USA has beaten Canada in the gold-medal game at both the most recent Paralympics and World Championships, they last two times they faced each other in the preliminary round at the World Championships, the USA fell short, losing 2-1 in Ostrava in 2021.
