Regional qualifying events, involving an additional 13 countries, were held in Kenya, Puerto Rico, Sri Lanka and Turkey earlier this year to determine four men’s and four women’s teams to join the qualifiers and wild cards.

Fifty-two teams from 31 countries are set to contest the 2014 BNP Paribas World Team Cup at the Nieuwe Sloot Tennis Centre in Alphen, Netherlands, from 26 May - 1 June.

The World Team Cup is the ITF’s flagship wheelchair tennis event, often referred to as the Davis Cup and Fed Cup of wheelchair tennis.

The initial event took place in California in 1985 involving six men’s teams. The women’s competition began the following year, with quad and junior events introduced in 1998 and 2000, respectively. The ITF introduced regional qualifying for the men’s and women’s events in 2012.

As Netherlands hosts the World Team Cup for the third time this year, competition will take place in five events: men’s World Group (12 nations), men’s World Group 2 (12 nations), women’s World Group (12 nations), quad event (8 teams) and a junior event (8 teams).

Regional qualifying events, involving an additional 13 countries, were held in Kenya, Puerto Rico, Sri Lanka and Turkey earlier this year to determine four men’s and four women’s teams to join the qualifiers and wild cards.

Defending their 2013 titles are France’s men’s team, Netherlands’ women’s team, the USA’s quads team and Great Britain’s junior team.
