Twenty-nine titles will be up for grabs at the UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships, which begin on Thursday (10 April) in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

The four-day event will feature numerous Paralympic and world medallists from 28 different countries, with a total of 122 riders hitting the track at the Bicentenary Velodrome at an altitude of 1,880m.

Australia, Great Britain and the USA have the largest contingent of athletes represented and will be favoured to take home the largest supply of medals.

The British will rely on Sarah Storey, Paralympic and world champion in the C5 category, and on Jon-Allan Butterworth, world champion and world-record holder in the men’s C5 competition.

In the men’s C4 class, Brit Jody Cundy will race alongside para-cycling legend Jiri Jezek of the Czech Republic.

The Australians will not be daunted, and among others will be counting on three-time Paralympic champion Kieran Modra in the 4km individual pursuit tandem. In Mexico, he will race the sprint and time trial with pilot Jason Niblett.

The American contingent boasts six gold medallists from last year’s UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships, including Allison Jones, who just last month won bronze in the women’s alpine skiing downhill standing event at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.

Highlights of the competition will be made available each day on the UCI’s YouTube channel.
