The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced Wednesday (16 November) that Samsung will serve as the presenting sponsor of the 2012 UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships, in Los Angeles from 10-12 February, 2012.

The announcement was made at the USOC's "Ride with Heroes" cycling event in Washington D.C. The event, held in collaboration with the Congressional Olympic and Paralympic Caucus, highlighted USOC programs which inspire excellence, promote fitness and support the nation’s active military and veterans.

"It's wonderful to see Samsung once again demonstrate their commitment for the Olympic and Paralympic Movements by signing on to sponsor the 2012 World Championships," Chief of U.S. Paralympics Charlie Huebner told the USOC.

"I have no doubt the Los Angeles area will embrace this competition and support all of the athletes as they work toward the 2012 Paralympic Games in London."

The competition will welcome approximately 230 athletes from 30 countries and will also serve as the final qualifying event for U.S. athletes to be nominated to the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Cycling Team that will compete at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. U.S. athletes expected to compete include Allison Jones, Greta Neimanas, Clark Rachfal, Jennifer Schuble, Aaron Trent, Karissa Whitsell and McKenzie Woodring.

It will take place at the Home Depot Centre Velodrome, a national training center for USA Cycling that is the first and only permanent indoor track of international standard in North America. The track measures at 250 meters in circumference, 7 meters in width, and inclines at 45 degrees on both ends. With 2,450 seats, hundreds of fans will get the chance to cheer on their respective teams.
