The award is given to the top athlete who the public believes recorded the biggest achievement in sport during the year.

Four of the 14 athletes and teams nominated for the Swedish Radio’s annual competition, Jerringpriset, are the nation’s gold medallists from the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The award is given to the top athlete who the public believes recorded the biggest achievement in sport during the year.

The four Swedish Paralympians nominated are:

Anna-Carin Ahlquist (table tennis): Ahlquist claimed gold in the women’s singles class 3 event at London 2012 and helped Sweden take silver in the women’s team class 4-5 competition.

Maja Reichard (swimming): Just 21 years old, Reichard won Paralympic gold in the women’s 100m breastroke SB11 in a world-record time of 1:27.98.

Jonas Jacobsson (shooting): In his ninth Paralympic Games appearance this year, Jacobsson won gold in the men’s 50m rifle SH1 and silver in the men’s 10m air rifle standing SH1.

Peter Vikström/Stefan Olsson (wheelchair tennis): The duo won wheelchair tennis doubles gold at London 2012, beating France’s Frederic Cattaneo and Nicolas Peifer in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) in the finals.

The 14 finalists will be narrowed down to the top eight on 8 December via a public vote.

Jacobsson is the only Paralympic athlete to have ever won the award previously.
