Vink Wins Rotterdam Title

15 Feb 2011

Ronald Vink from The Netherlands won the fourth ITF 1 Series men's main draw singles title of his career on Saturday, 12 February, when beating defending champion Stephane Houdet of France in straights sets in the final of the World Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.

In a rematch of last year's final in Rotterdam, which Houdet won 6:3 6:3, it was Vink who had the upper hand in a close first set this year and the world No. 4 went on to record a 7:5 6:1 victory.

Vink reached the final after his compatriot Robin Ammerlaan had retired from Friday's semifinal with a wrist injury. However, Ammerlaan proved fit enough to partner Houdet in the deciding round-robin doubles match as they faced the all-Dutch pairing of Maikel Scheffers and Vink in an entertaining encounter. As in 2010, Ammerlaan and Houdet again denied Scheffers and Vink, winning 7:5 2:6 6:3.
