Each day leading up to the awards, we are previewing a different category, and in this article are highlighting those nominated for Best Team, based on their performances at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) will host the 2013 Paralympic Sport Awards in Athens, Greece, on Saturday (23 November). The awards, proudly partnered by the IPC’s International Partner Allianz, will include six awards categories: Best Female Debut, Best Male Debut, Best Female, Best Male, Best Team and Best Official.

Each day leading up to the awards, we are previewing a different category, and in this article are highlighting those nominated for Best Team, based on their performances at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Nominees:

Australia wheelchair rugby: The squad took gold at London 2012 with a 66-51 victory over Canada in the final. Ryley Batt led the team with 161 total points nit he tournament, including 37 in the final.

Brazil football 5-a-side: The team won their third consecutive Paralympic gold in the sport without conceding a single goal, and remain the only team to have ever been named Paralympic champions in the sport. The Brazilians were led by top striker Jefferson da Conceicao Goncalves, better known as Jefinho.

Canada men’s wheelchair basketball: The Canadians claimed their third gold in the last Paralympics by beating defending world champions Australia in the final. The team’s effort was spearheaded by Patrick Anderson, who posted career-best numbers and finished as the tournament’s top scorer.
