The medals for the Atlanta 1996 Paralympics featured the Games emblem – a star in a quarter circle, with stylised flames to the side. The flames represent the human spirit burning brightly and were also a nod to Blaze, the mascot of the Games, who, as a Phoenix, is commonly associated with the positive aspects of fire.
