Get to Know: The Design and Symbolism
Parabbit is a white rabbit with one green and one red ear and it is wearing a pair of skis. It was chosen as the mascot to complement the Nagano 1998 Paralympic Winter Games logo that was based on the simplified form of the Japanese character for “naga” in Nagano, which was stylised to resemble a rabbit. The mascot was created by Sadahiko Kojima and a competition was held among students to find a name for the Paralympic mascot, which resulted in “Parabbit” being chosen among 3,408 different entries.
