An agreement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Xavier Gonzalez, has put the 2011 IPC Swimming European Championships in the city of Berlin.

The confirmation for the upcoming Championships between the IPC and the National Paralympic Committee of Germany (DBS) took place simultaneously with the recent 23rd International German Swimming Championships from 28-31 May in the German capital. Many distinguished guests from the worlds of sport, politics and business were on hand at the signing.

Together with DBS President Karl Hermann Haack, Mr. Gonzalez set the date for June 2011, when the Championships will be at the Swimming and Diving Hall in the Europe Sport Park of Berlin.

The Vice President of DBS, Dr. Karl Quade, said that he is happy with the trust the IPC is giving to the city and the organizer in putting together an unforgettable event. He continued saying that the event, being so close to the upcoming London 2012 Paralympic Games, would certainly bring out high performances in all athletes.
