The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced the nominations for the 2016 BNP Paribas World Team Cup wheelchair tennis event that begins Monday (23 May) at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, Japan. Defending their 2015 titles are Great Britain men’s team, Netherlands women’s team, and USA quad team and junior teams.

A total of 52 teams from 29 countries are contesting five events: men’s World Group (12 teams), men’s World Group 2 (12 teams), women’s World Group (12 teams), quad event (eight teams) and junior event (eight teams). Regional qualifying events were held in Ecuador, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Turkey to determine six men’s and four women’s teams to join the direct entries.

The BNP Paribas World Team Cup, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2015, is the ITF’s flagship wheelchair tennis event, often referred to as the Davis and Fed Cups of wheelchair tennis.

The seedings for the men's, women's and quad events are based on the combined rankings of the top two singles players from each nation, using the ITF ranking of 16 May.

France is top seed for the men's World Group this year, while the Netherlands is top seed for the women's World Group, and Great Britain is top seed for the quad event. The USA is the top seed for the junior event and Brazil is top seed for men's World Group 2.

In the event that the combined rankings are the same for two different nations in any one event, the higher seeding is given to the nation with the highest ranked individual player.

The draw will take place on Sunday (22 May), with matches starting on Monday and running until Saturday (28 May). The event is being hosted by the Japanese Tennis Association (JTA).

More information on the 2016 BNP Paribas World Team Cup team nominations can be found on the ITF’s website.
