Call for nominations for the Athlete Representative election

World Para Dance Sport invites National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) to nominate one candidate for election as World Para Dance Sport Athlete representative for a two-year term from 2021 to 2023.

The athlete representative will take part in the Sport Technical Committee (STC), acting as liaison between the athletes and the STC, and shall also serve as direct link to the IPC Athletes’ Council.

The candidates should have strong qualities of leadership, communications skills, and respect, both on and off the field of play. World Para Dance Sport particularly welcomes candidates with commitment to the advocacy of athlete related issues.

If elected, the representative is expected to devote the necessary time required to attend relevant activities, including but not limited, to actively participate in discussions on athlete-related issues, attend or host athletes’ meetings at major sport competitions, consult with the athlete population and represent their best interest. 

The new athlete representative will replace Belgium’s Sofie Cox.

“As athletes, we experience championships or a competition in a totally different way than a judge or the ones who organise it. So, I think it is very important to have a voice as athletes in things that they discuss and the choices they make," Cox said following her election. 

Due to the cancellation of the 2021 Para Dance Sport World Championships, the election of the new World Para Dance Sport Athlete Representative set to take place in Ulsan during the competition will be held online. More information about the election will be announced in the coming weeks.

Call for nominations with instructions and online-nomination form were sent by email to NPCs Presidents and Secretary Generals by World Para Dance Sport. Deadline for the submission of nominations is 20 October (24:00 CET).
