Candidate City Tour Ends in Madrid

The fourth and final official site inspection for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games finished today in Madrid, Spain. 08 May 2009 By IPC

From 5-8 May, the 2016 Evaluation Commission was in the Spanish capital for a series of meetings and presentations by representatives from the Spanish Olympic and Paralympic Committee, the Spanish government and the bid committee as well as Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Madrid follows site inspection visits to Chicago (USA), Tokyo (Japan), and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

The 2016 Evaluation Commission is lead by Chairperson Nawal El Moutawakel and includes International Paralympic Committee (IPC) representative Greg Hartung.

Provided through presentations and on-site visits, each Bid City provides the Evaluation Commission with an in-depth look into 17 different themes, including Paralympic Games, transportation, accommodation, technology, media operations, environment and meteorology, finance, security, sport and venues and Athletes village(s).

The outcome will be summarized in a technical report, which will be published and submitted to all IOC members no later than one month before the election of the Host City, which takes place on 2 October during the IOC Session in Copenhagen, Denmark.
