Five for Ni Riain

If the hosts dominated the Citi Para Swimming World Series Australia 2024 with their 61-strong squad, a single name from overseas stole the spotlight – Ireland’s Roisin Ni Riain.

Ni Riain had an impressive performance over the weekend collecting five gold medals and leading her nation to the second place of the medals table.

The S13-swimmer triumphed in the women’s 50m and 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly and 200m medley.

“I’m really happy with that performance, it’s always fun to get out there again and kind of start off in January. It’s the lead into Paris now, so it’s an exciting road ahead”, said the Irish swimmer.

Ireland also took another gold medal with Nicole Turner (S6) in the women’s 50m butterfly, in a one-two finish with her teammate Dearbhaile Brady (S6) finishing second.

The other Irish podium finishes came with Paralympic champion Ellen Keane’s (SB8) silver medal in the women’s 50m breaststroke and Deaten Registe’s (S14) bronze in the men’s 100m breaststroke.
