With the aim of promoting wheelchair tennis, international training workshops are being held across four cities in Colombia for people with impairments. The workshops run from 7-13 December.
The event includes the participation of the German Kai Schrameyer, former world No. 1 from 1993 and 1994 and two-time Paralympic silver medallist. Colombian wheelchair tennis player Johana Martinez Bogota – ranked No. 29 in the world in the women’s singles – will also attend the workshops.
The purpose of the workshop is for athletes to benefit from the knowledge and experience of the German coach endorsed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), who provide instruction on handling the wheelchair, mobility, the physical part and technique the discipline. In addition, it seeks to promote the sports institutes equity in tennis for the search for positive results at national and international level.
The training took place Tuesday (8 December) in Bucaramanga, continuing on Wednesday (9 December) and Thursday (10 December) in Pasto; Friday (11 December) in Bogota; and 12-13 December in Valledupar.
