The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games kicked off its official site inspections on 4 April in Chicago, USA. In April and May, the 13-member Commission, including International Paralympic Committee (IPC) representative Greg Hartung, will assess the ability of all four Candidate Cities, Chicago (USA), Tokyo (Japan), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Madrid (Spain), to stage the Games in 2016.

The dates for the evaluation tour are as follows:

Tokyo: 16-19 April 2009

Rio de Janeiro: 29 April to 2 May 2009

Madrid: 5-8 May 2009

In each city, the Evaluation Commission will have an in-depth look, provided through presentations and on-site visits, into 17 different themes, including Paralympic Games, transport, accommodation, technology, media operations, environment and meteorology, finance, security, sport and venues and Athletes village(s). The outcome will be summarized in a technical report, which will be published and submitted to all IOC members no later than one month before the election of the Host City, taking place on 2 October during the IOC Session in Copenhagen, Denmark.
