Gemma Collis-McCann named Allianz Athlete of the Month for April

Great Britain’s wheelchair fencer Gemma Collis-McCann has been voted the Allianz Athlete of the Month for April after taking gold in the women's epee category A at the Montreal World Cup. It was a shock World Cup victory for the Brit, beating world champion Zsuzsanna Krajnyak of Hungary.

Collis-McCann, who returned to competition only this year after a long recovery from a neurological disorder, received 58 per cent of the public votes.

Australian wheelchair racer Madison de Rozario came in second with 29 per cent. Welsh athlete Hollie Arnold was third (5 per cent) ahead of Australian table tennis player Melissa Tapper and US swimmer Robert Griswold.

The 2018 winners are:

January – Oksana Masters, USA, Nordic skiing

February – Mac Marcoux, CAN, alpine skiing

March (Best Male) – Brian McKeever, CAN, Nordic skiing

March (Best Female) – Ekaterina Rumyantseva, NPA, Nordic skiing

March (Best Team) – Chinese wheelchair curling team
