Germany, Great Britain dominate Para-Triathlon Euros

The event was a key stepping stone en route to this year’s World Championships, which will take place on 11 September in London, Great Britain.

Germany and Great Britain dominated the 2013 ETU Para-Triathlon European Championships last weekend in Alanya, Turkey, combining to win nine of the 14 titles available.

In one of the most competitive fields, Germany’s Martin Schulz came out on top in the men’s TRI-4 class, clocking in at 1:00:44. France’s Yannick Bourseaux, the defending champion in the event and also a Paralympic nordic skier, came second in 1:02:09 and was followed by Spain’s Jairo Ruiz Lopez, who finished in 1:03:02.

Phil Hogg shined in the men’s field for Great Britain, taking the TRI-1 European title in 1:05:55, ahead of Spain’s Francesc Sola Garcia (1:07:44) and fellow Brit Joe Townsend (1:12:34).

Lauren Steadman and Clare Cunningham made it a one-two finish for the British women in the TRI-4 event, clocking in at 1:09:25 and 1:11:46, respectively. Russia’s Alena Kaufman place third (1:18:05).

Meanwhile, France’s Stephane Leroy won the men’s TRI-5 event in a time of 1:07.54. He was joined by two Italians on the podium – Andrea Bozzato (1:09.38) and Alessandro Colombo (1:10:48).

Elsewhere on the women’s side, Great Britain’s Jane Egan won the TRI-1 (1:30:53) and Sarah Pearson won the TRI-3 (1:28:51), while Israel’s Yulia Chernoy was victorious in the TRI-5 class (1:42:35).
