01 Feb 2012 By IPC

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) extended its Memorandum of Understanding with the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) on 16 January with an agreement regarding the Shotgun discipline.

The agreement was signed by ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Rana and IPC CEO Xavier Gonzalez.

The two organizations mutually agreed to recognize the Federazione Italiana Tiro al Volo (FITAV) as the organization that will co-ordinate the global development of the Shotgun discipline for shooters with disabilities. FITAV will design and implement a project to further develop the Shotgun events for disabled shooters, including its rules and regulations.

FITAV will conduct test competitions and then report their recommendations to the ISSF for review and then to the IPC for approval.

The IPC signed the original Memorandum of Understanding with the ISSF on 10 November 2010 to promote competitions, events, knowledge exchange and the general development of Paralympic Shooting and its participating athletes.

Shooting will be one of 20 sports featured at the London 2012 Paralympic Games this summer.
