The Lima 2019 Organising Committee celebrated 100 days to go until the Parapan American Games through Para sports exhibitions held at the Cesar Vallejo Educational Institute, with hundreds of schoolchildren participating.

Peruvian Para badminton player and triple 2018 Pan American champion Pilar Jauregui explained her sports to the kids, who also had the chance to try out blind football, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball.

Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus said: “Sport helps people organise themselves and have challenges. We have been working very hard for two years so that Lima and Peru can show the world what we are capable of.

“All this effort we are doing is for the athletes, who will be the face of our country.”

The Opening Ceremony of the Parapan American Games will be held on 23 August at the 40,000-capacity Estadio Nacional (National Stadium), home of the Peruvian national football team.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra and the Council of Ministers led by Premier Salvador del Solar joined the celebrations from the Government Palace by wearing the official Lima 2019 shirts and Parapan American Games caps.

“Only 100 days to go until we cheer for our athletes at the Parapan American Games. At the Government Palace we received Milco’s visit to share with him the final stretch towards #Lima2019. Let’s all play!” tweeted the Presidency’s official account.

Lima 2019 will take place between 23 August and 1 September and will feature over 1,800 athletes competing across 17 sports, overtaking Toronto 2015 as the biggest Parapan American Games in history.
