The thrill continued at the Paris La Defense Arena with several records falling even as Great Britain and China dominated the pools on the fourth day of competitions at the Paralympics on Sunday (1 September).

But it was Ukraine's Mykhailo Serbin who hogged the limelight after clocking a world record timing of 1:05.84 in men's 100m backstroke S11 final. Serbin, who is the reigning Paralympic and Manchester 2023 Worlds champion, bettered his own mark set at Manchester 2023 at Stade de France.

Great Britain swimmers dominated the pools for second straight day - winning four gold. Tokyo 2020 champion and multiple-time world champion, Maisie Summers-Newton took one of the four medals for Great Britain, with a Paralympic record in women's 100m breaststroke SB6 final. Hers was one of the four Paralympic records broken in the evening.

"There was a lot less (pressure). I get so nervous for the IM. I feel like, in a sense, it was passed down to me from Ellie (Simmonds, GBR). So there's a lot of weight on me for that event. But I know I have done so well here. I have held that title since 2018, being fastest in the world in the IM," said Summers-Newton after taking the second gold at Paris 2024 on the day after her golden show in women's 200m medley SM6 on Friday (30 August).

"This one is my favourite event. Just go in, enjoy it and the crowd was amazing. To get another gold medal, defend both my titles, I couldn't ask for much more."

China picked up three gold medals in the evening including Yang Hong's gold in the men's 100m breaststroke SB6 final which came with a Paralympic record timing of 1:18.34.

France's Emeline Pierre gave the cheering crowd a reason to celebrate with her first Paralympic gold in the women's 100m freestyle S10 finals.

Four-time defending champion Jessica Long however missed out on a medal in women's 200m individual medley - SM8 final in a heartbreaking result.

Among other winners, Germany took two gold medals while Italy and Switzerland got one in the evening.
