In just under six months, the Changwon International Shooting Range will host the World Shooting Para Sport Championships for the first time. For many of the world’s elite athletes heading to South Korea, Changwon is more than a familiar destination – it is the range where several of them achieved some of the best performances of their careers.

Thirteen currently standing WSPS individual and team world records were either set or equalled in Changwon.

In the P1 – men’s 10m air pistol SH1, both the world record (WR) and the qualification world record (QR) established three years ago in the Korean city remain unbeaten. One of the host nation’s stars, Paris 2024 Paralympic champion Jeongdu Jo, holds the QR (582.0). The WR belongs to Paris 2024 bronze medallist Chao Yang of China (241.8). India’s Manish Narwal – the defending world champion – completed the Paralympic podium between the two with silver.

Iran’s Paralympic legend Sareh Javanmardi still holds the qualification record in the P4 – mixed 50m pistol SH1, set at the Changwon WSPS World Cup in April 2024.

Rifle events show an even stronger Changwon footprint: nine of the events featured at the last World Championships in Lima 2023 and on the Paris 2024 Paralympic programme have world or qualification world records originating from this range. That includes the oldest record on the current list – the R8 - women’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 WR set by Korea’s Yunri Lee in August 2022 (461.1). The QR in the same event was also established in Changwon, by Ukraine’s Iryna Shchetnik at the 2024 World Cup (1,186.0).

Another Korean standout, four-time Paralympic medallist Jinho Park, holds the WR (252.3) in the R6 – mixed 50m rifle prone SH1, also from the April 2024 WSPS World Cup.

French shooting Para sport legend Tanguy de la Forest owns the QR in the R4 – mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2 with 638.7, set at the 2023 Changwon World Cup. He also broke the WR in the same event with 254.7, before improving his own mark seven months later at the WSPS World Championships in Al Ain, UAE (255.5).

Team events add to Changwon’s impressive record list: the current P2 (India – 1,695), P4 (China – 1,647), P5 (South Korea – 1,088) and R9 (France – 1,875.4) world records were all established at the Changwon International Shooting Range.

The fully accessible venue will welcome the world’s best once again from 7 to 18 September for this year’s WSPS World Championships. More information about the event will be available on the World Shooting Para Sport event page.
