Rio 2016 preview: P2 (women’s 10m air pistol SH1)

By IPC

At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Iranian world champion Sareh Javanmardidodmani will try to make history.

If she can continue her winning form in P2 (women’s 10m air pistol SH1) she will win Iran’s first gold medal in shooting Para sport since the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.

It would also be the first time a female shooter has picked up gold for Iran, following in the footsteps of Nayyereh Akef who was the first Iranian woman to claim a medal in the sport in 2000.

As the bronze medallist from London 2012, Javanmardidomani has come a long way in four years.

She has set three world records, two in P1 and one in P4 (mixed 50m pistol SH1), to become the one to beat.

Hungary’s Krisztina David finished behind the Iranian at the World Championships and has been improving as Rio 2016 edges closer.

Expect a close tie between these two athletes at the Olympic Shooting Centre, as well as Paralympic champion Olivera Nakovska-Bikova of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Catch shooters in action in P2 on day two of competition (9 September).
