The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) has unveiled the event line-up for each session  of the Paralympic Games, which will be held from 25 August to 6 September 2020. In advance of the launch of ticket lottery applications on 22 August this year, fans can now check the detailed competition schedule for all sessions. A record 4,400 Para athletes  will compete in 540 events across 22 sports, which will be held at 21 venues in Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Shizuoka prefectures.

Events featuring the most popular sports are spread throughout the Games allowing spectators to enjoy the dramatic highs and lows from beginning to end. Of the total 300 sessions, 108 will include medal events. Overall, events have been scheduled so that they will be easier for families to attend and to allow as many people as possible to experience them. The latest sessions in 19 out of the 22 sports are scheduled to finish before 10pm local time.

Tokyo 2020 took a holistic approach when compiling the schedule, taking into account the athletes’ experience and well-being, technical rules and regulations of the various international federations, gender balance, the popularity of individual sports in Japan, operational considerations, and global TV audiences.

On 26 August, one day after the Opening Ceremony, the first medallists of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will be determined; they will be in the women's cycling track (time trial) C1-2-3 3000m pursuit, which will take place in Shizuoka prefecture. On the same day, medallists will be determined in a total of 24 events, including 16 swimming events, 4 wheelchair fencing events, and 4 cycling (track) events.

Falling midway through the Games, 30 August 2020 will be “Golden Sunday”, with 63 medal events being held — the most of any day during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. These will include 20 final events in athletics, four in triathlon, four in mixed rowing, 13 swimming finals, and five judo final events. The wheelchair rugby final will be held from 6pm and hopes are running high in Japan that the host nation’s team, the current world champions, might make it through to contend gold.

Maintaining the momentum of the Golden Sunday weekend, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will continue gearing up towards their climax. On 1 September, there will be no fewer than 61 medal events. Fans will be able to enjoy watching traditional favourites like athletics and swimming events throughout; these are scheduled for all but two of the 12 days of the Games. Athletics will feature the largest number of individual events at the Games, and all athletics sessions will include finals, resulting in 168 medal events.

Badminton and taekwondo, newly introduced to the Paralympic Games, will be two of the highlights of the latter half of the Games. The first ever Paralympic badminton medallists will be determined on 5 and 6 September, the last two days of the Games, and medal events will be held during all three days of the taekwondo competition, during 3 – 5 September. Wheelchair tennis will take place on 4 and 5 September with hopes of Japanese players winning a medal. Semi-finals and finals in a range of other sports will be held one after another, helping to build excitement towards the climax of the Games.
