Wheelchair Rugby Tournament Celebrates Successful Anniversary

The 10th International Bernd Best Wheelchair Rugby Tournament took place in Cologne, Germany, from14 to 16 March.

Nearly 50 teams from various European countries participated in the event, organized by the Cologne Wheelchair Sports Club. Wheelchair Ruby players, regardless of their experience and level of play, took part in matches in four different divisions (Champions League, Professional League, Advanced League and Base League), allowing the teams to find their appropriate challenge and level of competition.

The unique character of the Bernd Best Wheelchair Rugby Tournament supports a comprehensive, but split programme according to the different levels of the participating teams. This special programme allows competitive opportunity from grass roots to elite level.

Patrons of the tournament were IPC President Sir Philip Craven and Gerda Pleitgen, Chairperson of the German Fundraising Committee of the DBS. More than 400 volunteers, including referees, officials and staff members, were involved in the organization of the tournament.
