Who will win Best Male Games Debut?

For the first time, the IPC has decided to split the Best Games Debut award into male and female categories due to a record number of nominations received.

The International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) will host the 2013 Paralympic Sport Awards in Athens, Greece, on Saturday (23 November). The awards gala, proudly partnered by the IPC’s International Partner Allianz, will include six awards categories: Best Female Debut, Best Male Debut, Best Female, Best Male, Best Team and Best Official.

Each day leading up to the awards, we are previewing a different category, and in this article are highlighting those nominated for Best Male Debut.

For the first time, the IPC has decided to split the Best Games Debut award into male and female categories due to a record number of nominations received.

Nominees:

Raymond Martin (USA): The American wheelchair race was unbeatable at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, winning gold in all four of his T52 events (100m, 200m, 400m and 800m), setting world records in the 100m and 200m distances.

Jonnie Peacock (Great Britain): As one of London 2012’s host nation heroes, Peacock silenced 80,000 fans chanting his name before taking Paralympic gold in the 100m T44 sprint.

Alex Zanardi (Italy): Twenty-one years after competing at Brands Hatch as an F3000 driver, Zanardi, who also used to race in F1, returned to the course win double handcycling gold at London 2012. He picked up top finishes in the individual road race H4 and individual time trial H4, in addition to winning silver in the mixed team relay H1-4.
