Welcome to the home of the 2012 IPC Athletics European Championships.

I’d like to take the time to invite you all to what will be a fantastic pre-cursor to this year’s Paralympic Games – the 2012 IPC Athletics European Championships, which are being staged in the lovely, quaint town of Staadskanaal just a couple of hours due east of Amsterdam.

This will be the second time the Championships have come to the Netherlands, as Assen staged the event back in 2003 when France took home the most golds.

In Staadskanaal, you will have the opportunity to see nearly 500 athletes chase after their dreams, as it will be their final chance to qualify for a spot at the London 2012 Games. Some of the top names across Europe and atop the world rankings will appear, giving fans a preview of what to expect at the end of the summer.

Entry to the event is free of charge, so it does not get much better than this.

I’d like to thank you all for your contributions to IPC Athletics over the years, and advise you that is about to happen in Staadskanall will only be a preview of what is to come in London.

Please take the time to enjoy it.

Sir Phillip Craven, MBE

IPC President
