2018 World Shooting Para Sport Championships | Cheongju

Cheongju, South Korea, has been announced as the host of the 2018 World Shooting Para Sport Championships between 1-12 May.

The World Championships will be the first event where athletes can secure quota places for their countries at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Around 300 shooters from 60 countries are expected to compete at Cheongju 2018, which is being organised by the Korean Shooting Federation for the Disabled (KSFD).

Tyler Anderson, World Shooting Para Sport Manager, said: “We are delighted to be bringing one of our marquee events to the Asian region with just over two years until Tokyo 2020.

“It is also the second time the World Championships have taken place in South Korea, a country which has produced some of world’s best shooters over the years. Providing the perfect conditions for such a high level event is therefore in their DNA.

“I am confident that the Local Organising Committee will do everything they can to make this a great event, offering athletes an ideal platform to go for those all-important gold medals.”

The 2002 World Championships were held in Seoul, South Korea, and attracted 211 athletes from 36 countries.

The last Worlds took place in Suhl, Germany, in 2014. Nearly 250 athletes from 50 countries competed for titles, with South Korea topping the medals table with 10 gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

In order to be eligible athletes must earn an MQS (minimum qualifying score) for the competition. The scores required are available in the related documents section to the left.
