With the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games just around the corner, the eighth edition of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix will be of huge significance for Para athletes. The seven events are scheduled to take place around the world between March and June. All Grand Prix events, with the exception of Paris (no discus or seated shot put) will offer the Games event programme, and additional events at their discretion.

Entry to Grand Prix events is completed by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) and National Federations (NFs) via IPC's SDMS Online Entry System. Athletes wishing to enter should contact their NPC.


Fazza International Athletics Championships
Dubai, UAE; 14 – 17 March 2020

The season kicks off in Dubai at the same stadium that hosted the 2019 World Championships. The Dubai Club for People of Determination will again host the best athletes on the planet for the first stop of the 2020 Grand Prix.

Next year’s circuit is set to be one of the strongest to date as it will offer the world’s best Para athletes the chance to test their skills on the international level in the lead-up to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Loterias Caixa Athletics Open Championships
Sao Paulo, BRA; 26 – 28 March 2020

Brazil has been an ever-present on the Grand Prix calendar, with Sao Paulo having hosted six of the seven events since 2013. This will be the fourth year that the state-of-the-art Paralympic Training Centre will be playing host to the Loterias Caixa Championships.

Desert Challenge Games
Mesa, Arizona, USA; 02 - 05 April 2020

The Grand Prix North American stop returns to Mesa, where the USA's Daniel Romanchuk set a world record in men's 800m T54 in 2018. The Desert Challenge Games were awarded the Outstanding Adaptive Program by the Arizona Parks & Recreation Association in 2013.

Handisport Open Paris
Paris, FRA; 06 – 08 May 2020

The home of the 2024 Paralympic Games is no stranger to top quality sports competition. Last year, Handisport Open Paris hosted over 600 athletes and saw some world-class performances in the final event of the Grand Prix season.

Unfortunately this year, there will be no discus, or seated shot put events.

Italian Open Championships
Jesolo, ITA; 22 – 24 May 2020

The city of Jesolo will make its debut as a World Para Athletics Grand Prix host in 2020. The Armando Picchi Stadium will be the official competition venue for the 2020 Italian Open Championships, the fifth leg of the Grand Prix. At last year's Grand Prix in Grosseto, eleven world records were broken during competition.


Nottwil, SUI; 28 – 30 May 2020

The fastest track in wheelchair racing will again play host to the Para Athletics Grand Prix in 2020. Fourteen world records have been broken at the Nottwil Grand Prix, which continually attracts many of the best racers in the world.

13th Tunis International Meeting
Tunis, TUN; 26 – 28 June 2020

Africa’s only Grand Prix of 2020 returns to Tunis, with the country’s top athletes likely to dominate the event. It is the 13th time the Tunis International Meeting has been held, with its warm climate and location attracting athletes from across the region.
