Abdulla Sultan Alaryani won gold at the first ever IPC Shooting World Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates

Abdulla Sultan Alaryani received the first Allianz Athlete of the Month honour of 2016 following his performance at the IPC Shooting World Cup in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Alaryani stormed to two individual golds and one silver medal at the season opening World Cup. He barely faltered on his way to first place in R7 (men’s 50m rifle three positions SH1), adding to the gold he won in the R1 (men’s 10m air rifle standing SH1) from the previous day. He also secured a silver in the R6 (mixed 50m rifle prone SH1), which helped the UAE to team gold.

Alaryani secured 83 per cent of the public votes. Italian alpine skier Giacomo Bertagnolli was second with 11 per cent. French alpine skier Marie Bochet was third (3 per cent), followed by Great British wheelchair tennis player Gordon Reid (2 per cent) and then British sailor Helena Lucas (1 per cent).
