IPC Athletics has confirmed that Australia’s Kath Proudfoot broke the world record in the women’s Discus F36 on Saturday (21 January) with a throw of 26.81m at the Hunter Track Classic in New South Wales, Australia.

Proudfoot’s throw broke China’s Qing Wu’s previous mark of 25.80m at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

If the 35-year-old cerebral palsy athlete competes at London 2012, it would be her second Paralympic Games. Proudfoot won silver in the Discus in Beijing and placed fourth in the Shot Put.

Athletics will be one of 20 sports at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
