Berck-Sur-Mer 2018: Bruno Carra vs. Juan Carlos Garrido

Latin American showdown in the men’s up to 59kg 22 May 2018 By IPC

Latin American rivals Bruno Carra and Juan Carlos Garrido will meet in a thrilling men’s up to 59kg competition at the European Open Championships in Berck-Sur-Mer, France, between 25 and 29 May.

The Brazilian came fourth in the up to 54kg at his home Paralympics in Rio, in 2016, but then dropped to seventh place when he switched categories for the Mexico City 2017 World Championships.

Garrido, on the other hand, failed in all three attempts at the 2016 Games but bounced back at the Worlds. In Mexico City, the Chilean cleared the bar at 181kg, a lift which would have won bronze at Rio 2016.

The Latins’ most memorable face-off so far was at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games, with Garrido topping the podium ahead of Carra.
