The bid application process has officially opened for the 2015 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships A-Pool, an eight-day event that will draw the top eight ice sledge hockey teams in the world.

The event will take place just a year after the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games and will build off the expected success from Sochi in terms of team performances and media coverage and awareness for the sport.

Teams expected to take part include: Canada, USA, Russia, Czech Republic, Norway, Italy, Germany and Japan.

Germany and Japan will move up to the A-Pool after finishing in the top two in the B-Pool last season. South Korea and Sweden – despite qualifying for Sochi 2014 – have been relegated to the B-Pool.

A World Championships has been held in the sport since 1996, and 2015 will mark the eighth edition of the event. Canada have the most world titles to their name with three, while the USA have two and Norway and Sweden each have one.

The last World Championships A-Pool took place this past April in Goyang, South Korea, where 180 athletes from eight countries took part. In Goyang, Canada defeated the USA for gold and Russia defeated the Czech Republic for bronze.

Those interested in hosting the 2015 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships A-Pool must return the required documentation and guarantees by 2 December.
