“I think the ParalympicsGB Sports Fest is fantastic as it is a great opportunity for disabled people who have been inspired by London to find out more about all the different sports that they might be interested in, and hopefully those who attend the Sports Fest can also come along to support me and other swimmers in the evening."

The British Paralympic Association (BPA) has joined up with British Swimming to offer an opportunity for fans to watch world-class swimming, in addition to meeting other Paralympic athletes and trying out different Paralympic sports in a unique four days of disability sport in Sheffield, Great Britain from 25-28 April.

London 2012 Paralympic gold medallists Ellie Simmonds, Josef Craig and Jessica-Jane Applegate will be in action at the British International Disability Swimming Championships, one of the premier disability swimming events in Great Britain, which runs from 25-28 April.

In conjunction with the Championships, from 26-27 April, the BPA will host the latest Sports Fest, a free two-day multi-sport event which offers disabled people the chance to “Try the Sports, Meet the Medallists, Get Inspired.”

The Sports Fest is being supported by a number of high-profile Paralympians, including London 2012 table tennis silver medallist Will Bayley and wheelchair basketball player Maddie Thompson.

As a result of the collaboration, the two major events have been scheduled to ensure that fans of can attend the Sports Fest at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield from 10:00-16:00 local time on Friday or Saturday, where they will have the opportunity to meet Paralympic athletes, have their photos taken or ask for autographs, and try out Paralympic sports.

They can then move to Pond’s Forge where they can cheer on British Paralympians in the swimming finals.

“This is such exciting news, I was already looking forward to competing in Sheffield but the additional support will be great for us,” Craig said.

“The Paralympic Games last year were brilliant because people really got behind us so I’d really encourage people to come along to both events to support disability sport.”
