China Dominate Second Day of Powerlifting at 2010 Asian Para Games

Host country China dominated the second day of Powerlifting at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games winning two gold medals, but it was left to an Iraqi athlete to make the Record books.

In the first event of the day at the Asian Games Town Gymnasium, Cui Zhe of China claimed gold in the Women’s 44kg category. Her lift of 95.0kg was enough to see off Achelle Guion of Philippines into silver and Kazakhstan’s Kabira Askarova into bronze.

Shi Shanshan of China won the gold medal in Women's -48 kg of Powerlifting at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games with a result of 110.0 kg . Xiao Cuijuan of China and Shin Jeong Hee of Korea took the silver and bronze respectively.

Iraq claimed their second Powerlifting gold medal in consecutive days through Rasool Moshin. The 23 year old’s lift of 187.5 kg in the Men’s 56kg was an Asian record and good enough for first place ahead of Iran’s Seyed Yousefi Pashaki and Thailand’s Narong Kasanum.

The final event of the day saw Hamzeh Mohammadi of Iran victorious in the Men’s 60kg with a lift of 197.5kg. Nader Moradi of Iran took silver and Yang Quanxi of China the bronze.

On Wednesday (15 December) there are two Powerlifting medal events the Men’s 67.5kg and the Men’s 75.0kg.
