Cortney Jordan has been selected by her teammates to serve as the United States flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony of the 2013 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships on Monday (12 August).

Jordan is one of the most decorated athletes on the U.S. squad, winning four medals including gold at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games and three medals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. She has two world titles to her credit from the 4x100m medley and 4x100m freestyle relay races at the 2010 worlds as well as a dozen individual medals from 2010, 2009 and 2006.

A swimmer for California Lutheran University, she is also a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The honour is awarded to a senior female student-athlete who has been exemplary throughout her collegiate career. The NCAA Woman of the Year Award not only includes athletic excellence, but also academic achievement, service, and leadership. This award has been given by the NCAA since 1991.
