Daniel Dias becomes Ottobock Paralympic Ambassador

In London, 78 Ottobock orthopedic technicians from 20 countries provided a technical service for the 4,237 athletes from around the world. More than 2,000 work orders were processed.

The IPC’s international partner, Ottobock, has appointed Brazil's Daniel Dias to become its fourth Paralympic Ambassador. The 24-year-old swimmer won six gold medals at London 2012, making him one of the world's most successful Paralympians.

Ottobock CEO, Professor Hans Georg Näder, and Wilson Zampini, the company's regional president for Latin America, made the announcement in In Rio de Janeiro, host of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016.

The Paralympic ambassadors are integral to Ottobock's concept of sport promotion. They are role models for young athletes with impairments and represent the Paralympic Movement in the years between the Games to gain public attention for their sport.

After Germany's Heinrich Popow, Australia's Kelly Cartwright and Russia's Svetlana Moshkovich, the fourth Paralympic ambassador now comes from Latin America. Dias attended the presentation of Rio 2016’s application, and has become the face of Brazil's disabled sports.

The IPC and Ottobock Healthcare announced during London 2012 that their worldwide partnership would continue to include the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, including providing a technical service for Sochi 2014. Ottobock has been active at all summer and winter Games since 1988.
