The Netherlands’ Michael ‘Schumi’ Schoenmaker has been waiting for this event since competition started on 4 August.

A bronze medallist at London, Schoenmaker has been working to bring his time down and has shaved an incredible six seconds off his personal best time.

He has not yet medalled in his home pool and this is his big chance to change that against France’s David Smetanine, the silver placed finisher from 2012.
