After the successful IWRF Wheelchair Rugby European Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, Finnish star Leevi Ylonen was elected the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Ylonen, who doesn’t seem to have a speed limit on the court, played a vital role in Finland’s sixth-place finish, which was good enough for a spot at next year’s World Championships in Denmark.

The Finnish team finished fourth in Group A behind Great Britain, Germany and Belgium.

Italy’s Ahmed Raourahi finished second in the MVP standings, while the IPC’s One to Watch Tomas Hjert of Sweden finished in third.

All-Star Team and Best in Class athletes

Ylonen was, of course, one of the four players who made it onto the tournament’s All-Star Team.

This four-player team has a maximum of 8.0 classification points (in wheelchair rugby, a team may play with a lineup that totals a maximum of 8.0 points) and is composed of the best players from the tournament.

In addition to the Finnish daredevil, Sweden’s second consecutive European title led to All-Star Team spots for Hjert and Mikael Wahlberg, while Denmark was represented by Thor Johansson.

The Best in Class players were awarded as follows:

• Class 0.5 : Mikael Wahlberg – Sweden (All-Star)

• Class 1.0 : Adrian Moser – Switzerland

• Class 1.5 : Thomas Schuwje – Germany

• Class 2.0 : Thor Johansson – Denmark (All-Star)

• Class 2.5 : Thomas Hjert – Sweden (All-Star)

• Class 3.0 : Leon Jorgensen – Denmark and Leevi Ylönen (All-Star) as MVP

• Class 3.5 : Ryadh Sallem – France
