First Day of Competition Kicks Off in Ostrava

After athletes and officials from the National teams of Canada, Japan, Germany, Czech Republic, Norway, USA, Italy and Korea celebrated the official Opening Ceremony, the 2009 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships (A Tournament) saw their first day of competition today.

Spectators and fans saw four exciting games, starting with USA defeating Italy 3-0. One of the favourite teams Norway won against Korea with 4-1, while in the game between Japan and Germany (4-3), the winner was only decided in overtime by Japanese player Satora Suda shortly before the end of the game. In the last game of the day, current World Champion Canada won 3-0 against host country Czech Republic.
