With the theme “Big Challenges, Broad Thinking, Bright Future”, the first IPC Athletics Summit successfully ended its three-day conference in the town of Bad Honnef, located just a few kilometres outside of Bonn, Germany. 04 Mar 2009 By IPC

“The IPC Athletics Summit followed a format which is recognized by the world as ‘Open Space Technology’, a first for the IPC”, Ms. Murphy said.

A total of 80 delegates from 23 different nations attended the Summit, which had the purpose of gathering members of the Athletics community and exchanging ideas between experts in various topic areas. These areas were collectively determined and consequently identified as critical to ultimately move the Paralympic Sport into a bright and positive future.

The IPC Athletics Sport Manager, Helen Murphy, said that the outcome of the Athletics Summit was a more assured and exciting future that had clear direction, priorities and a well-organized mode of operation.

“The IPC Athletics Summit followed a format which is recognized by the world as ‘Open Space Technology’, a first for the IPC”, Ms. Murphy said.

The external facilitator for the Athletics Summit, John Stuart, was given the floor after Murphy and explained in detail the Open Space Technology process. He invited delegates to write their topic areas on paper, and then place it on the wall in front of everyone.

As the processing of what was determined continues, and because proposals came from within its own community, Murphy said that IPC Athletics will undoubtedly grow effectively and outwardly towards a bright future.
