Five Para athletes have been nominated by their respective National Paralympic Committees for the Americas Paralympic Committee (APC) Athlete Representative elections that will take place during the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.

The candidates vying for this position are:

• Cristian Valenzuela, Chile, athletics

• Giselle Muñoz, Argentina, table tennis

• Ileana Rodriguez, USA, swimming

• Shauna-Kay Tawani Hines, Jamaica, taekwondo

• Simone Camargo, Brazil, goalball

The APC Athlete Representative elections will take place 17-25 August 2019 in the Proud Paralympian area located in the entrance way to the Main Dining Hall. All athletes competing at Lima 2019 are invited to vote.

Incumbent APC Athlete Representative Ileana Rodriguez was elected at Toronto 2015.

The APC Athlete Representative is the voice of the Paralympic athletes of the Americas Region and is a member of the APC Executive Committee.

She/He should have strong leadership qualities, as well as broad knowledge of the Paralympic Movement, be respected both on and off the field of play, and hVE experience in, and a commitment to, the advocacy of athlete-related issues.

The elected APC Athlete Representative is also expected to devote the necessary time required to fulfil the work on the APC Executive Committee and to attend relevant activities and meetings over the next four years.

Lima 2019 will take place between 23 August – 1 September and will feature over 1,800 athletes competing across 17 sports, overtaking Toronto 2015 as the biggest Parapan American Games in history.
