Ghana took home its first gold medal at the 2011 All-Africa Games on Monday (12 September), as Ajara Mohammed won the 1,500m T54 race at Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo, Mozambique.

Mohammed won the same event at the 2007 All-Africa Games in Algeria.

Her teammate, Anita Fodjour, took bronze in the same race on Monday.

On the men’s side, Patrick Obeng and Felix Acheampong won silver and bronze, respectively, in the 1,500m T54 race.

Ghana was represented at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games but did not win any medals. The nation is now working with the Right to Dream Talent Academy to send four of its top athletes to the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
